Is it just me or do the bees seem to be about a month behind? Last year with new colonies by this time I had all ready removed several supers. This year (haven't checked in about ten day) with 2 over wintered hives and 4 new colonies I got squat...

How much honey have your girls produced so far?

Yes I am also behind last year at this time. Hoping the goldenrod will get my hives going.

Update Sept18 2013.
Well it is official the bees did not produce as well as I hoped.

Started the season with 2 over wintered hives and 2 nukes.

The first hive was strong and gave me 3 supers of honey.
The second hive was weak and died in April

Both of the New nucs did not do good. No honey from one of them and 3/4 super from the other.

In addition I caught a swarm and replaced the dead colony with it. And I got two more swarms and added them All three of these hives had the advantage of using frames with comb already made (from last year) so I was surprised to see very little honey.

So all in all I got 4 medium supers from 6 hives this year as apposed to 3 supers from 4 nucs last year.

I have left a medium on all six hives, in a couple of days I will take them off to get the hives ready for winter. MAYBE if I am lucky I will be able to get enough frames out of each to come up with one more super.

I was expecting at least 8 supers from six hives which I did not get, but on the other hand I did get 1 more than last year so I guess in reality I had a 20 percent gain over last year.

This winter I plan to pay much more attention to them so hopefully I will have 4 strong hive to start out with verses 1 like I started with this year.

One thing I did notice is the supers seem to be a little heavier than last year. It could be because I am a year older or it could be because ALL the frames are packed more tightly with honey. When I extract it this Friday I will be able to tell.

Ill let you know how many pounds I got when I get done bottling it...

I was shocked at how poor it was for me. I have seen lots of activity the last month and the apiary smells strongly of honey from 25' away. I went out Friday and quite surprised to hardly any capped honey. It was about the same as it was 1 month ago! All but one of the hives seemed strong too!
